Cacti: Prickly Pear

The flowers on one variety of prickly pear started blooming yesterday. These are the traditional variety; I haven't seen any on the bear's paw yet. Below is a closer view with lots of buds:

On a tangent: Ghost isn't the only cat who hangs out in the sewing room. Tonight Smudge decided he would use the ironing board as a bed, and a stack of patterns as his pillow:

Great picture of Smudge! Beautiful lighting and you've really captured the essence of catness... :)

Thanks gwen. I wish I could take more credit for composing the shot, but it was really experimentation and dumb luck with a Nikon Coolpix point and shoot. I had taken a couple of shots with the flash and wasn't totally happy. So I pulled up the blinds, and there was enough light to capture the image.

The cacti sure do bring back fond memories of my girlhood in Texas! I had a huge cactus garden here in Florida (and they said it couldn't be done) but it was wiped out by hurricane Andrew.
