If you've followed my blog for a while, you know that I've made quite a bit of sleepwear, such as pajama pants and nightgowns, over the years. One of my favorite patterns is Simplicity 9505 because it has two nightgown patterns that I like.
This pattern is still on the website under pattern number Simplicity1561 and a slightly redesigned envelope. Good to know in case I ever need a replacement.
Last summer, I cut out the version with the straps (View E) but the weather turned before I had time to get to it. So off to the projects stack it went. It resurfaced when I was doing a bit of reorganizing. I was also ready to start on a new project, so I found it just in time. Easy to make and good for an afternoon at the sewing machine, serger, and iron. Here it is:
The fabric came from Stitchology, a local independent, and I just love it. It's still a little cool to wear but I'm sure I'll enjoy it a lot when summertime comes.

First Day of School Project--Butterick 5776
I'm all done with the First Day of School Project and have two outfits to show for it! The first one I'm sharing with you is the girl's outfit, which was made using Butterick 5776:
The top is made from a remnant I left from a peasant top I made for me (and apparently never blogged!). It's organic cotton that I picked up at Santa Fe Fabrics on my way to a church vestry retreat last year. Really nice and a pleasure to work with. The pants are a cotton that I purchased at Stitchology during one of the project sew-a-longs that Melisa hosted.
I didn't end up adding all the embellishments I intended but it's just as well. The top got some lace trimming around the hem, courtesy of the ASG Trading Post:
And here's a shot of the capri-length pants:

Progress on the Marcy Jacket and a Class
The Vogue 8795 Marcy Tilton jacket is coming along. I've gotten as far as the collar. The zipper is steeping in a cup of hot water to eliminate any residual shrinkage, then I'll proceed with that part. Yes, I'm sewing out of order, but I can't see the guide sheet's purpose in having you assemble the entire jacket then insert the zipper. I want to do side seams after the zipper for two reasons: application will be simpler working on the flat, and I'd like to fine tune the fit.
Anyway, that's progress on the jacket. It still doesn't look like much on the dress form but I don't think it'll take long once the zipper is in
I haven't worked on it much this weekend, because I had a drafting class! Melisa had a class on drafting a skirt sloper Saturday at her store Stitchology, so that was most of the day. It was fun and interesting to start with a blank piece of paper and end up with a basic skirt pattern. And there is no better way to learn how to fit than by watching an expert work with different bodies. I am hoping to construct a "real" skirt soon, because that muslin will never see the light of day!
