90% Off Sale

No, I don't need more fabric and I should be saving my pennies. But it's still hard to resist a 90% sale, even if it's at JoAnn's. I picked up the first 3 the day before I lost my job and the tweed a couple of days later. In all, I spent $14.90 on 13.5 yards of fabric. That's $1.10 per yard!

4 pieces, clockwise from lower left: chiffon print, black eyelet, turquoise tweed, and heavy rayon twill print.

One week out and I'm still a bit discombobulated. I haven't really done any sewing yet, but I've been doing a lot of sewing organization. I've gathered a couple of bags and a box of patterns, fabric, and old magazines to take to the next ASG meeting. I also found some more cotton remnants that I ripped into napkin squares.

I've also been clearing the closet in preparation for a charity pickup Friday morning. It gave me a lot of joy to bundle up the logo-embellished work clothes. Some of the garments are really nice, but I don't see myself wanting to advertise my former employer anytime in the future. So off they go! There are still some pieces in the bureau--I need to make sure to add them to the bag.

Excellent passtimes. My spouse, also a former banker, also had "embellished" things. Some were kept for painting (ha-we don't do that ourselves anymore) and some were kept for practice pieces for my embroidery. He's still got some suits, of course.

Best wishes for your future! Here's hoping you can do whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it!

What lovely fabrics! I wandered in Joann's over the past weekends and didn't see any fabrics that are so lovely.

Yes, you are starting a new chapter in your life. Just like a caterpillar no longer needs the cocoon when it becomes a butterfly, it's great that you can free up and re-cycle those logo-ed clothes!

Getting rid of the logo-embellished clothes is like washing yourself clean for a new start. Your new fabric is pretty and cheerful.

I think you are approaching this with a good attitude...and I really like the fabrics that you got. Even if they did come from the craft store masquerading as a fabric store...

I think it takes time to get over an abrupt change in ones life. You are keep busy. Nice fabrics!

Love the fabric purchases. I have not seen any of your selection in our local JoAnn's. Is yours an ETC store. There is nothing more cathartic than ridding yourself of company products, clothing, etc. I would love to sell all the junky jewelry that DH's corporate "folks" gave him for his working tenure. The best one is a Baldwin Brass lamp which I just love, the rest - junk. I digress.....Keep your good attitude. Nothing feels as good as an organized sewing room or a clean closet.

Gad, you are moving right along, I admire you! Forward is really the only way to go, and you are going to kick *ss. I also loved your wedding suit, and have been lurking through your wonderful love story. From a fellow southwesterner (Phoenix)!

Everyone's great finds at the Joann clearance led me there last weekend--the fabrics were just as horrible and expensive as usual at my location! Good thing, I don't need more fabric. Hang in there!

Black eyelet can become so many things, and the others are fun, so why not?

Good luck with yout job search. Meanwhile, enjoy your termporary retirement. I always find some good fabrics at Jos. I don't have to pay $40 a yard for a decent piece of fabric! Although, I have. I love your napkins. I used to quilt, and have tons of cotton fabric that I should cut into squares and serge the edges when I need something to do.
