A Remake of the TSW Icon Shirt--Presenting the Iconic Shirt

I've been interested in this shirt since it first appeared on The Sewing Workshop website.

I've even made one already, which was previously featured on this blog post back in 2013. But that time it only appeared on a dress form. It was made pretty much according to the pattern (I left off the pocket). But you have to admit, it's memorable:

Lots of asymmetry and a flanged side seam in addition to that interesting neck treatment. But face it, I can't see having several of these in my wardrobe. But I can envision having something similar; hence the Iconic shirt will be coming soon. I'm thinking about keeping the neckline but losing the flange, the uneven front hemline and the split back seam.

The SewWest Closet: I'm wearing a pair of black Not Your Daughter's Jeans with tan patent Viotti wedges, both old. The generic sunglasses are new.

What a fun top! I'm so intrigued by TSW patterns, often inspired - but they are expensive :-( Love seeing yours.

Nan, I quite agree on losing the uneven front. If I were to try to wear a shirt like that DH would wonder if I'd forgotten how to button a shirt. I do like the rest of and looks so nice on you. Looking forward to the new interpretation.

Yes on changing out the uneven front. I love TSW patterns and your version of the Icon is beautiful.

I love your version of the shirt and am eager to see how you change it up. The neckline is my favorite aspect of the design. Could never figure out why the flange; it seems like it would add visual pounds where few people want them.

So glad to see your post, Nancy. I like the Icon shirt and made one myself when it came out. But there were things I could not really love, like the side flange. I look forward to your next installment on the Icon without the side flange. In fact, I'm going to have to pull it out and have a look.

BTW, Linda Lee has a sample of the Icon made as a simple vest. It does not include the asymmetrical hem and the neckline is open. There is really a lot to vary here.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for your feedback! It seems that everyone agrees about the flange and the asymmetrical front. I appreciate your input.
